The tree, usually a Norway spruce 75 to 90 feet (23 to 27 m) tall, has been put up every year since 1931. In 2008, the tree was lighted on December 3 and will remain illuminated until January 9, 2009.

I have actually never seen it in real life, but I have seen plenty of movies filmed in New York. It is a great sight and lots of people who visit New York in the winter go to the Rockefeller Center to enjoy the view and ice skating.
